Visakhapatnam: The Railway Board accepted to include seven railway stations from Palasa to Icchapuram in Srikakulam district into the newly formed South Coast Railway Zone. All these stations are in Khurda Road Railway Division in the East Coast Railway Zone. Seven railway station exist between Palasa (PSA) and Icchapuram (IPM) are Palasa, Baruva, Jadhupudi, Summadevi, Sompetaw, Mandasa Road and Icchappuram transferred to the Visakhapatnam division, which replaced Waltair Division. All these stations are located in Srikakulam district and are on the Chennai-Howrah line.
The Union minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said that Palasa-Icchapuram section in the Khurda Road was changed after several requests to the railway ministry. He said instructions were received by the South Coast Railway and East Coast Railway general managers from Railway Board. He said that he has been representing on this issue since the new South Coast Railway Zone was announced.
The Railway Board has sent orders of revision of jurisdiction under the proposed South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone. The executive director (E and R) Rameswar Meena mentioned in the orders that in partial modification, it has now been decided by the competent authority to also include Palasa-Icchapuram section, which presently under Khurda Raod division of East Coast Railway, in the proposed Visakhaspatnam Division of SCoR.
